A great Australian – Dr. HV Evatt

Herbert Vere  Evatt (aka Doc Evatt), QC KStJ (30 April 1894 – 2 November 1965), was an Australian jurist, lawyer, parliamentarian and writer. His career in government and world issues included the following:
  • Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1930 to 1940
  • De facto Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney-General and Minister for External Affairs in the Australian War Cabinet from 1941 to 1949
  • 3rd President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1948 to 1949 were he helped draft the United Nations 
  • 1st Chairman of the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission in 1946 Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • Leader of the Australian Labor Party (and Leader of the Opposition) from 1951 to 1960
  • Chief Justice of New South Wales from 1960 to 1962
